I am Lincy, a devotee of the Fourth Way and addicted to worship. "Welcome Lincy..."

But what does that mean? And how does the Fourth Way fit so well in this time as the 'path to enlightenment'? What are the other three paths? And what is devotion, actually? And at the end of this brilliant writing I give you some delicious (daily) practices you can do to bring the experience of 'suffering' together with the experience of 'pleasure'!

And do I have a conclusion? Maybe ;)

Curious? Let’s dive into Devotion in the Fourth Way!

WHAT IS THE FOURTH WAY?

In the Fourth Way, devotion is not merely an external act of worship, but a deep internal dedication to the process of self-development and transformation. The Fourth Way, as taught, show us that true devotion manifests in the relentless pursuit of self-observation and the removal of layers of automatic reactions and conditionings that hide the ‘true self.’ This process is intense and painful, as it requires the devotee to confront their mind, desires, and defense mechanisms. (Still fresh in your mind my essay on how 'narcissism is going to save the world?' Yep, deeper and deeper into the Self)

Devotion in the Fourth Way is not just a one-time act, but a continuous choice that you make daily. It’s the choice to constantly observe yourself and confront everything that is unconscious, everything that keeps you from being fully present in the moment. It’s a conscious surrender to the process, even when it brings discomfort, pain, or confusion. Each choice to seek the truth in the chaos of everyday life is a moment of devotion.

In the Fourth Way, worship is not limited to prayer or ritual, but becomes an attitude of surrender to the truth that presents itself in every moment. This truth is not always comfortable, let's call it BRUTAL 😁, but it is essential for the development of Life within consciousness. Cultivating devotion in the Fourth Way means the ability to accept everything you encounter without judgment, or the realization of false judgment, with an openness that goes beyond intellectual knowledge. It is an active surrender to the inner laws that help you break free from your automatic behavior patterns and consciously replace them with chosen behaviors. AKA creating life by CHOICE

The devotee in this tradition focuses on the ‘emptying of the false human’ to let the soul shine through full involvement in the moment of self-observation; losing yourself in yourself. Every action, thought, and reaction becomes an opportunity to come closer to the truth and move further away from the unconscious built identities (the ‘I’ that you think you are). This devotion to the path requires not only external discipline, but above all the inner willingness to confront and transform the mind. Shit G… 🤯

Devotion in the Fourth Way is an active choice to continually grow through self-examination and embracing your imperfections (there is no such thing as objective good-bad). It is an ongoing exercise in surrendering to the truth of who you really are, independent of the layers of self you’ve built from fear, shame, and the influence of the outside world, conditioning, and mechanisms. In this sense, devotion itself becomes a form of worship—not of an external deity, but of the truth that lies within and that you can discover through discipline, insight, and constant self-observation. You BECOME the ACT of devotion.

Hello, I am Lincy, and I am addicted to ‘worshipping Life in Self' 🤤

Who is the Father of the rather unknown concept of ‘The Fourth Way’?

Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff. He was born on January 13, 1866, in Alexandropol, now in Armenia, and died on October 29, 1949, in Paris, France.

Gurdjieff brought his teachings to the West in the early 1900s, when he began traveling through Europe and America, combining the knowledge he had gained in the East (such as in mystical Sufi, Hindu, and Buddhist traditions) with his own insights. He founded a community known as the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in France (sometimes referred to as the Gurdjieff Institute), where he taught his students the Fourth Way. This path emphasizes self-knowledge, developing inner awareness, and unlearning the automatic, unconscious reactions that dominate ordinary life.

Why the Name; The Fourth Way?

The name "Fourth Way" was chosen by Gurdjieff to indicate that it was an alternative, fourth path of spiritual development, distinct from the three traditional spiritual paths he had studied and analyzed: the path of the monk (transcending desires ‘emotions’), the yogi (transcending intellect), and the sufi (transcending body). The term "Fourth Way" is thus symbolic of the fact that this approach is unique in its integration of various spiritual techniques that simultaneously work on the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of a person, but does not require retreat from everyday life. We use our WHOLE human being here.

  1. Integration of all aspects of the human being: Gurdjieff understood that most traditional paths focused on a particular aspect of the human being (the body, the mind, or emotions), while the Fourth Way combines them all. In the Fourth Way, the body, emotions, and intellect are simultaneously addressed and developed through self-observation, awareness, and physical exercises. This makes it an integrated approach suitable for modern humans.

  2. Practice in everyday life: The rituals of the monk, the yogi, and the sufi often require withdrawal from society. Gurdjieff did not find this realistic for most people. He called his approach the "fourth" because it was specifically for people in modern society, who would not be able to give up their lives entirely for spiritual practice. The path does not require isolation but can be fully integrated into daily life through self-observation and discipline.

  3. The ‘Fourth’ as a path of balance: The name also suggests a balance between the various spiritual techniques. Where the monk focuses on the spiritual, the yogi on the physical, and the sufi on the emotional, the Fourth Way seeks a harmonious integration of all these dimensions. It is a path that is not dependent on any one aspect of the person, but addresses the whole person, with the goal of transforming the inner unconscious automatism and expanding awareness.

  4. In contrast to the other three paths: By naming his approach the Fourth Way, Gurdjieff made it clear that his path differs from and builds on the other three paths. It was intended for those who could not or did not want to isolate themselves to pursue spirituality but still wanted the possibility of attaining spiritual enlightenment through conscious self-discipline and integration without completely withdrawing from the world.

People are often unconsciously and deeply longing to allow devotion as norm, this desire that is not looked at is the reason many people search for fulfillment on a more superficial level, like through ‘sex, shopping, bingeing/not eating, excessive sleeping/exercising, alcohol, drugs, etc.’ Not that these things are ‘bad,’ fuck no, you can enjoy the fuck out of it! But it doesn't give us that deep sense of fulfilment we all search for. Secretly, we all want to allow ourselves to ‘lose’ ourselves in devotion.

But the Fourth Way is not easy; in fact, it is brutal!

Everything you see in ‘the other’ you see in yourself. You are the hatred. You are the desire. You are the obsessive. You are the addict, You are the unreasonable, You are the know-it-all. You are the suffering one. And you are the one who causes pain. You are THE FULL HUMAN.

Learning to see/embrace and love this, ‘aka yourself’ is the Fourth Way! This is why so few people step into it. I dare say that the people who do step into it are those who have known or currently know excessive suffering in their lives and 'simply' at some point had no choice but to learn to transform – stepping into the creative/destructive force of being human. I am one of these people, and I will also write a essay on this topic, so stay tuned.

Why do I dare claim that excessive suffering is the motivation to ‘step in’?

Excessive suffering often becomes the catalyst because it begins to break down the illusion of control and identity. When someone suffers deeply enough, the identification with the ‘false I’ and the automatic patterns become so painful that there are essentially only two choices left: either completely disappear into that pain (destruction) or face it and transform (creation).

Enlightenment/awakening is the greatest danger to identity because it exposes that the "I" one thought they were is merely a construct—a collection of conditionings, beliefs, and reactions. For people who fully identify with their brain and thoughts, this is a nightmare because it means that everything they thought they were can dissolve into something much larger (or, from their perspective, nothing).

So why do I dare claim that excessive suffering is the motivation? Because it is often the only force strong enough to push someone through that deathly fear of the 'I'. People usually only step fully onto the Fourth Way when they feel no other choice—when the illusion of their identity has become so painful that all that’s left is the truth.

But I don’t believe you have to wait for excessive suffering before stepping onto the Fourth Way. I just don’t know if you’ll have enough motivation to throw EVERYTHING you are into devotion. And everything you are is what’s needed…

Okay, fun Lincy, BUT WHYYYYYY????

The other side of the same coin as suffering is satisfaction – FREEDOM from everything that originally caused it.

Okay, now we step into the ‘pleasure’ field… follow me please...

Pleasure in the Fourth Way: Surrender to Life Itself

If suffering is the engine that pushes many onto the Fourth Way, then pleasure is the magnet that keeps them moving. Not as hedonism, not as an escape, but as a form of deep surrender to life as it presents itself in each moment.

Pleasure in this context is not simply ‘enjoyment’ in the superficial sense—it is the ecstasy of total presence, of feeling Life in its purest form. It is the experience of losing yourself completely in the moment, not as numbness, but as awakening.

What is pleasure in the Fourth Way?

The absence of resistance (or rather, not allowing resistance to lead) → Truly enjoying means you waste no energy on resistance. You let the moment unfold without contraction, without tight control. There may be fear there, but what is there that isn’t fear? Exactly, so much more…

Conscious sensuality → Not only in sexuality, but in everything: the taste of fruit, the touch of the wind on your skin, the texture of a voice, the ecstasy of breathing, the joy of a moving body. Presence makes every sensation more vivid.

The ability to receive → Suffering (the identification with fear) can lock your focus in your mind. Pleasure asks for openness, for allowing joy, beauty, love—without bracing yourself, without the old fear that it ‘feels too good to be true,’ the feeling of unworthiness.

Devotion as ecstasy → If devotion is a continuous choice, then pleasure is the dance that arises when you no longer experience this choice as ‘work,’ but as a natural state of being.

Pleasure as a power source

Suffering can be a catalyst, but it is not sustainable as the only driving force. Many people walking the Fourth Way get stuck in dissecting their pain, but forget that transformation is only complete when you also learn to embody the other side. Pleasure is that other side. The true devotee knows how to use/embody both.

To allow pleasure, you must deem yourself worthy to receive it. This is where many people stumble—the deepest layers of unconscious shame and self-rejection make it difficult to enjoy without reservation. But as you move through this, pleasure becomes a spiritual compass. It shows you where you are free and where you still feel resistance.

This ‘turnaround’ of experience became clear to me after my second awakening in November 2024. Since then, I no longer place all of who I am on ‘transforming pain,’ but rather on ‘opening the field of pleasure’ within myself. I’m not sure if this nuance can be understood without the experience… But writing an entire essay on the stages of awakening and put in this one might be a bit much. You’ll get that one from me later! Anyways…

The bridge between suffering and pleasure: Surrender

Essentially, both suffering and pleasure require surrender.

Suffering asks for surrender to the reality of your conditionings, your patterns, your illusions. Pleasure asks for surrender to the reality of your aliveness, your capacity for love, your connection to the whole.

The devotee who learns to dance between these two, without anchoring themselves in one side, discovers the full movement of delicious, powerful, being human. Contrary to what many minds think, ’to surrender’ is an active process.

WHAT? HOW? WHERE? I GOT YOU BOO!!

What daily exercises could you do to experience this bridge?

Self Care Meditation GIF by MOODMAN

  1. Self-Observation: Looking at where your resistance resides.

Goal: Notice where you resist the (desired) reality.

Step 1: Sit or lie down in silence. Close your eyes. Step 2: Bring your attention to your body. Slowly scan from your crown to your toes. Step 3: Pay attention to any areas where tension, resistance, or cramping is present. Observe without judgment. Step 4: Ask yourself the question: “What am I refusing to feel here?” Wait. Feel. Step 5: Stay with it. No analysis, no fixing—just observing and allowing.

Effect: This trains you to recognize unconscious patterns and how you move away from certain feelings.

  1. Recognizing Pleasure-Presence

Goal: Be fully present with pleasure without distraction or contraction.

Step 1: Choose a simple, sensual experience: a bite of food, a warm shower, sun on your skin, music. Step 2: Focus only on this. How does it really feel? Step 3: Notice if your mind wanders or wants to analyze. Gently bring your attention back. Step 4: Breathe deeper. Receive. Allow yourself to enjoy without rush or shame. Step 5: Feel how pleasure is not something you ‘do’ but something you open yourself to.

Effect: This helps you enter the pleasure field without automatically contracting or withdrawing.

  1. Surrender-Ritual: The Dance of Suffering and Pleasure

Goal: Consciously balance between resistance and surrender.

Step 1: Stand or sit comfortably. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Step 2: Recall a recent moment of suffering. Feel it in your body. Where is the cramping? Breathe into it. Step 3: Let it go. Make physical movements—roll your shoulders, sway, stretch. Let the energy soften, groan, sigh, make noise. Step 4: Now think of a recent moment of pure pleasure. Feel it. Where is the relaxation? Amplify it with a small smile and a sigh, but make noise. Step 5: Alternate a few times. Feel the difference. And then… let both go. Stay seated in the aftermath. FEEL what moves.

Effect: This lets you experience that suffering and pleasure are two sides of the same movement. It teaches you to consciously shift without getting stuck in one loop.

Conclusion:

Devotion is the unparalleled willpower to break free from the attachment to the unconsciously learned identities. The tool we use is focus—the ability to direct your mind to open up to the field of possibilities, allowing other realities to emerge (opening up to experience). This shift moves you from being an "unconscious victim of life" to becoming the "conscious creator of life." Both exist within us as uncomplicated human systems. Both are you. Neither is better than the other; it’s all a matter of personal preference.

How do YOU want to live as a human? What are YOUR desires? Where are YOUR blockages to receiving (from life)?

A fun inside joke: When awakening suddenly "overcomes" your humanness, you’ll realize you’ve always been what you were searching for. The search ends, but the being human doesn’t. However, when devotion becomes second nature, you will be able to enjoy much more what it truly means to be that; the magical human!

Welcome to the play of life! Where pleasure and suffering are the same, but where you can personally direct your own experience! Hubba Hubba and…

Godspeed

Dance until everything in you is welcome

Golden Girls Dancing GIF by TV Land

The end of winter is a challenging time for many. Our bodies and minds crave sunlight, desperately seeking warmth after months of darkness. Even here in Italy, I feel the cold in my bones. I can’t wait for the external sun to return and warm me up—but until then, it’s up to me.

That’s why some brilliant humans and I started a 30-day dance challenge: a way to bring the emotions that have been simmering in winter’s darkness into the light—a light we create for ourselves. It’s fun, and if you allow it, deeply pleasurable. Even when you're dancing with pain or grief, movement has a way of transforming what feels stuck.

This is me, by the way. I am dancing with my pain and grief.

If you feel shame, you can follow me HERE on YouTube and see that tears and pleasure can just come and go, and it doesn't need to look pretty!!

I was once addicted to (unconscious) suffering. Now, I’m addicted to consciously reprogramming the mind. I turn hell into heaven!

AND I AM HERE TO TEACH YOU TO DO IT FOR YOURSELF, so you will have this power the rest of your life! Let me teach you to see your world differently!

I am fascinated by the brain and feel a deep calling to guide you into a world where you can rise above your past, pain, patterns, and programming. A world where you can truly live consciously, freely, and in fulfillment—in a reality and a body designed exactly for you.

Extraordinary coaching uniquely tailored for you

Next-Level Living! For the Brave.

My extraordinary coaching is NOT for everyone! My clients are either inspiring themselves or have a bold, inspiring vision.

You feel you were placed on this earth for something BIG. You feel deeply and are passionate about diving deeper and deeper into self-knowledge.

You are intelligent, a natural questioner, and a proud outsider.

You bring a challenge with you—I’m not looking for the easy road, and neither are you.

All in all, you understand the power of devotion.

I'm working on detachment. My scarcity mindset wants to Sauron-eye every lack I find in my reality—including in men. This is part of the addiction to suffering that I unconsciously built when I didn’t know any better.

A part of me still wants to be saved. I recognize that this is also a lesson in building my business—learning to trust instead of clinging to fear.

Here’s a video I watched to remind myself what detachment really is:

Dear God.

Stand by me in my vulnerability, insecurity and transformation.

Show me how miraculous you really are!

Show me how infinite you are!

Show me how powerful,

how fucking genius you are!

This is my time!

I’m ready for the next step.

Please show me the way!
