The fear that follows joy

Next Level Living
The Fear Beneath Fulfillment
Sometimes, the moment we start to feel good…
something contracts. And the brain is judging the brain again 🙄
It might be subtle (often not)— a thought that cuts through the softness,
a sudden need to “do” something again.
Fulfillment can feel dangerous to a nervous system that’s been wired for lack, abandonment, or survival.
Not because joy is unsafe—
but because it’s unfamiliar.
When we’ve spent years scanning for what’s wrong,
joy becomes the interruption.
Peace feels like the risk.
So let’s not bypass that.
Let’s name it!
Today’s Reflection:
What do you fear will happen if you truly let yourself feel full?
Not just momentarily satisfied… but deeply, fully met by life? WRITE IT IN THE JOURNAL. Make a writing date with yourself with that special candle. What is the worst thing that can happen when you will start embracing rest and fulfillment?
Is there a part of you that thinks the joy will be taken away?
Or that you’ll disappear in it? Alice in wonderland anyone 👀? Your life WILL change. You WILL loose a lot of familiar.. but isn't that really the point?
Counter Habit:
If fear arises in the face of joy, try saying:
“This is just unfamiliar, not unsafe.” “I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR WHAT WILL COME
“I’m learning how to hold this.” “everything is always working out for me”
Place your hand on the place in your body that contracts—and breathe into it, slowly.
You don’t have to push past the fear.
You can find it right there, in the middle of it. Breathe.
This is the deeper layer of fulfillment:
letting yourself stay with the good, even when your history says it’s dangerous.
And that’s not weakness.
That’s nervous system alchemy.
That’s transformation.
You’re not just experiencing joy—
you’re becoming someone who can hold it.
